We have two locations: one in Port Charlotte and one in Fort Myers. Our office in Port Charlotte, FL is just off of US 41 on Murdock Circle. We are in the Murdock Circle Executive Center across the street from Dillards in the Port Charlotte Town Center. Get directions.
We are the only facility between Tampa and Miami that solely treats conditions of the hand and arm and have been successfully treating thousands of patients each year since 1999. We can quickly and effectively diagnose and treat your problem because of our expertise and experience in this area of the body. We have the most advanced diagnostic tools on site, including a fluoroscope for immediate images. Currently, 25% of our patients come to us from outside our immediate area and we devise a condensed treatment plan to minimize the number of visits necessary when possible with our out-of-town patients. We will also refer you to an occupational therapist in your area for post-op and follow up care, if needed.
Dr. Helgemo has been a practicing orthopedic surgeon since 1997 and has been working only as a hand and arm specialist since 1999. He is dual Board Certified in both Orthopedic Surgery and Hand Surgery and is Florida’s leading carpal tunnel surgeon. Dr. Olarte joined the practice after completing his fellowship at the University of Mississippi in 2011.
Dr. Helgemo has been practicing many years and this exact figure is hard to determine. However, from 2008 – 2010 he performed over 2300 outpatient procedures and over 1400 in-office procedures alone.
If you have an in-office or outpatient surgical procedure Dr. Helgemo or Dr. Olarte will performing the treatment. We do have a lot of support staff available in our office for post-op care, occupational therapy and emergencies, so you may seem them for follow up visits at times.
In early 2010 our patients began completing a satisfaction survey in order for us to better understand areas for improvement, as well as get a clear picture of how our patients feel after treatment at our facility. From those surveys collected we have discovered that over 96% of our surveyed patients would recommend us to their friends and family. We’re proud of that achievement and committed to continually improving our care and service.
We care about each individual patient’s diagnosis, treatment and post-op care. However, in order to allow Dr. Helgemo and Dr. Olarte to meet with new patients, provide the most accurate diagnosis, prescribe a treatment plan and perform procedures, we do utilize our qualified physician’s assistant and nursing staff when it comes to re-check and routine follow up visits. You can request to see Dr. Helgemo or Dr. Olarte for your follow up visit, but you may have to wait several extra days because of his schedule. At Florida Hand Center we are a group of medical experts focused on hand and arm conditions and treatments. We treat our patients with a team approach, meaning that all of our staff becomes familiar with patient history, charts and past procedures and experiences prior to any appointment at our facility. Each staff member has been trained by Dr. Helgemo and Dr. Olarte personally, and our physicians oversee the care of each patient at our treatment facility.
A funny question, but one that we are asked often. It is 1000 gallons.
